Job Description:
|
Objective:
|
This is a professional position serving as a Meat Safety Veterinarian, providing essential veterinary meat inspection services for the Bureau of Meat and Poultry Businesses (BMPB). This position is responsible for protecting the public’s health from foodborne hazards, ensuring animal welfare, and in assisting in livestock disease control.
Work primarily consists of:
- Accurately performing dispositions of animals and/ or carcasses retained concerning the wholesomeness or adulteration of them based on professional diagnosis of pathological conditions and public health criteria as set forth in regulations.
- Enforcement of laws, regulations, and performance standards associated with humane handling of animals, ante-mortem and post-mortem slaughter inspection activities, disposal of condemned animals or carcasses, sanitation, and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulatory requirements.
- Providing training and oversight to inspection staff and industry personnel.
- Conducting humane handling verification activities or good commercial practices correlation visits.

Training Required:
|
1) Graduation from an AVMA accredited college or university with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent
2) Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, credentials to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Wisconsin. |

Salary:
|
