Job Description:

Objective:
The Ohio State University Large Animal Services based out of Marysville, Ohio, is inviting applicants for a 1-year (12-month) internship with a focus on general large animal medicine and surgery. The practice services 16 counties in Ohio for all equine, food animal, camelid, and cervid needs either by ambulatory means or at our outpatient urgent care surgery and medical facility. The largest share of the practice consists of dairy production medicine and surgery (approximately 12,000 head), equine (pleasure and performance), beef (cow-calf, feedlot, and show cattle), and small ruminants (goats and sheep). The practice currently has four full-time faculty veterinarians, one first-year resident veterinarian and one third-year resident veterinarian. Additionally, the practice has four full-time staff members, which includes one RVT. As an OSU College of Veterinary Medicine fourth-year core clinical rotation, the practice teaches 8-10 veterinary students per two-week block. Out-of-state veterinary students and pre-veterinary students also frequent the practice throughout the year. The intern will be expected to participate directly in the service aspects of the practice and in the teaching of senior veterinary students. The applicant will be mentored extensively in all areas of large animal veterinary practice including individual animal medicine and surgery, production medicine, and the business of veterinary practice. As the intern progresses and as the clients, faculty, and the intern deem appropriate, the intern will be given independent case management responsibility. Some emergency duty will be expected as a compliment to the faculty veterinarians. The goal of the internship is to prepare the intern for a future in a residency role, in-house or ambulatory, or to be able to move directly into a practice as a well-rounded and confident asset. The candidate must have earned a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited school and must qualify for licensure in the state of Ohio. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a one-page statement of professional goals, and a list of three references (name, address, phone number, e-mail address). Academic transcripts may be requested at a later date. The position will begin June 1, 2025 and end May 31, 2026. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt and accepted until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted to Kristin Smith – Clinic Manager, OSU Large Animal Services, 16410 County Home Rd., Marysville, Ohio 43040, 937-642-2936, fax: 937-642-3278, email: smith.6915@osu.edu The Ohio State University is an EEO/AA employer and promotes a tobacco-free campus.
