Job Description:

Objective:
The successful candidate will be a member of a team of four veterinarians responsible for facilitating the use of veterinary diagnostic laboratory services to support individual and population animal health. The AHDC VSS team serves as translator and interpreter of testing data and assists veterinary practitioners with selection of appropriate testing strategies, and application of diagnostic test results to disease control and surveillance management strategies for a wide range of animal species and populations. The team works closely with the New York State Veterinarian to implement disease prevention programs, identify reportable diseases, and respond to outbreaks. The successful candidate will provide veterinary expertise to diagnostic laboratory professional staff and provide insight into clinical presentations, standard animal management practices, or animal industry trends that may affect diagnostic testing strategies, results, and interpretations. Veterinary Support Services play a critical role in diagnostic laboratory investigations of emerging diseases and emergency response. The new team member will participate in veterinary diagnostic investigations and research projects, teach diagnostic concepts, prepare educational materials for AHDC veterinary clients, and lecture in the DVM curriculum.
Training Required:
The successful candidate will have a DVM or equivalent degree; a minimum of 2-3 years veterinary clinical experience with broad species interest; and a particular interest and expertise in population medicine and veterinary laboratory diagnostics. The successful applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A post-graduate degree or experience in preventive medicine, internal medicine, epidemiology, population medicine, public health, information systems, and/or regulatory veterinary medicine will be an advantage. Teaching experience is desirable.
