Objective:
|
Oversees and administers the day-to-day operations of assigned areas and employees. Specifically support, manage and assess Kansas field veterinarian medical officers operations. This will involve frequent communication with the field staff to assign cases, provide administrative support for their individual case loads and provide KDA and animal health headquarter updates.
Serves as a professional liaison between the agency and veterinarians, producers, producer associations; other state, federal and international agencies; general public; and members of the Kansas Legislature. Meets with veterinarians, producers, market owners, and other stakeholders to address animal health concerns and challenges. Performs administrative duties pertaining to state-federal cooperative disease control and eradication programs (i.e., brucellosis, tuberculosis, scabies, avian influenza, pseudorabies, paratuberculosis and equine infectious anemia). Serves as the point of contact with the KS brand investigators. Discuss cases and facilitate a working relationship that supports both KDA animal health and brand investigators Works closely with USDA Veterinary Services on state/federal cooperative agreements involving disease control and eradication programs, animal identification programs and other issues. Promotes animal disease traceability (ADT), upholds related regulations, and addresses compliance issues.
Assists with the formulation of the division’s regulations, policies, procedures, and budget. Provides expertise for addressing and promoting animal health and welfare as well as public health matters related to animal diseases. Conducts epidemiology surveillance, surveillance testing and scientific analysis of animal health, disease outbreaks, regulation compliance, animal disease traceability and other regulated activities. Performs and/or supports Foreign Animal Disease (FAD) investigations for reportable diseases. Participates in planning and supporting state animal health and emergency response activities. Delivers group presentations to represent the Division of animal health programs and activities and maintains a positive presence in the local agriculture community. Assists the Animal Health Commissioner with all assigned duties to successfully promote the mission of the agency. |

Training Required:
|
• Graduated from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
• Licensed and USDA accredited to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Kansas.
• Capacity to meet the demands of a physical, strenuous work environment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Valid Kansas Driver's License and a safe driving record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. |

Experience Desired:
|
• Two years of veterinary practice experience; including large animal ambulatory service (education, training and/or related experience may be substituted).
• Knowledge of Kansas Animal Health Statutes and Regulations.
• Knowledge of professional work in various disease control and eradication programs.
• Additional training and knowledge of enhanced biosecurity practices. |

Salary:

• Annual Salary: $92,500 Per Year • Hourly Pay: $44.47 Per Hour * Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. |
