Objective:
 SENIOR LECTURER POSITION (“OBERARZT”) IN RUMINANT MEDICINE The Farm Animal Department at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, Switzerland, is offering a (80-100%) senior lecturer position in Ruminant Medicine. Duties: • Participation in the clinical activities of the Ruminant Internal Medicine section (in-house service only; including emergency and critical care). • Contribution to the clinical training and didactic teaching of professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students and participation in continuing education activities. • Emergency work after hours, on holidays, and on weekends is part of the basic duties and will be shared with other senior clinicians. • The appointed candidate will represent the Ruminant Internal Medicine and the Surgery section through interactions with clients, referring veterinarians, other faculty members and clinicians, colleagues from preclinical and paraclinical institutes, students, external research groups, visitors, and representatives of biomedical companies. • The appointed candidate will be expected to develop an independent or collaborative research program and to pursue an advanced degree (PhD, Habilitation) at the University of Zurich. Opportunities will be available for intramural start-up grants and for collaborative research with a variety of research groups, including the Agrovet Strickhof Research and Teaching Center. The Agrovet Strickhof facility is located 18 km from the Zurich campus. This center was recently founded by the State Competence Center for Agricul¬ture and Food Technology Strickhof, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and the University of Zurich (UZH). The facility offers space for 120 dairy cows and 120 beef cows.  
Training Required:
 The candidates should fulfill the following qualifications: • A professional degree (Dr. med. vet., DVM, or equivalent) and board certification in large animal internal medicine (ACVIM), surgery (ACVS) or bovine health management (ECBHM) are absolute requirements. • An advanced degree (PhD, Habilitation, or equivalent) is not required. • The candidate should be a team-player with adequate clinical experience, excellent communication skills, and a strong desire to provide excellent patient care and to train professional students, graduate students, interns and residents.  
Experience Desired:
 • Knowledge of German and English language is required. At least basic German language skills are necessary to communicate with clients, grooms, and technicians. Also, lectures are generally held in German (although English would be possible as well). If the candidate does not have adequate knowledge of the German language, he/she must agree to acquire it within a reasonable period of time. Communication among clinicians and case discussions on rounds can be done in German or English.  
Salary:
 The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications. The appointment includes 5 weeks of vacation and admission in the obligatory retirement plan. Accident insurance is covered by the employer, whereas general health insurance must be concluded by the employee.

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 Farm Animal Department: The Farm Animal Department consists of the Clinic for Ruminants, including the sections Internal Medicine and Surgery, and the Clinic of Reproductive Medicine, including the sections Large Animal Reproduction, Genetics and Functional Genome Analysis, Andrology and Assisted Reproduction. Additional sections of the Department are Bovine Health Service (RGS), Ambulatory Service and Herd Health and Swine Medicine. There is a close cooperation with the Equine Department, which covers Anes-thesiology, Ophthalmology and Cardiology service. The facilities of the Farm Animal Department are well maintained and equipped with up-to-date medical devices (including high-end video-endoscopy equipment, several ultrasound machines, two tilt tables, different surgery tables for calves and adult cows, different POC devices for emergency laboratory). The Department has five main examination and treatment areas (surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, reproduction).  
Other Personnel :  Currently, the Internal Medicine Section consists of one board-certified internist (ACVIM) and five assistant veterinarians (bovine practitioner track), several senior students, and grooms/technicians. The senior lecturer position will be filled in addition to the above listed positions. The clinic offers an ACVIM residency program. 
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 The yearly caseload of the Clinic for Ruminants consists of approximately 2000 cases (approx. 800 in the Internal Medicine Section, 500 in the Surgery Section and 700 in the Reproduction section), most being inpatients.

Zurich International Airport is located only 8 km from the VSF and can easily reached by public transportation (30-40 min) or by car (10-15 min).
