Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College - University of Prince Edward Island, is seeking a qualified individual to fill a three-year food animal production medicine residency available by July 1, 2022. The successful candidate will receive training in individual and population medicine as well as complete an MSc in an appropriate research area. The focus of both the training and research components will usually be dairy health management, but there will be opportunity for exposure to other livestock production groups. Candidates successfully completing this program are encouraged to pursue certification by the American Board of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. Other activities will include teaching senior veterinary students in Farm Service rotations and sharing in clinical emergency duties with Farm Service faculty. 
Training Required:
 Candidates require a DVM degree or equivalent, an adequate academic standing to qualify for postgraduate training at the University of Prince Edward Island, and a minimum of one year clinical experience with food animal production medicine.  
Experience Desired:
 The AVC Farm Service Section provides primary herd and flock veterinary services to dairy, beef, swine herds, and sheep and goat flocks, primarily in the province of Prince Edward Island. In addition, a Field Investigation Service is offered to referring veterinarians throughout Atlantic Canada. The Farm Service Section consists of 4 veterinarians; all possess graduate training in epidemiology, and specialize in one of more of the following areas: mastitis, nutrition, theriogenology, lameness, infectious disease and public health. Farm Services clinicians are members of the UPEI Center for Veterinary Epidemiologic Research (www.upei.ca/cver), one of the most productive veterinary population research groups in the world. One or more members of this group will provide supervision for the graduate program of the Farm Services resident. 
Salary:
 The starting salary is approximately $32000.00 CND/annum,pending departmental approval. 
Benefits:
 Medical benefits and professional liability coverage are provided by the University. Two weeks of paid vacation, and release to attend one educational meeting each year, with travel allowance to be negotiated.

Practice Area:  The Atlantic Veterinary College is located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, one of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada. Prince Edward Island is mostly rural, with a population of 140,000. Miles of unspoiled beaches and charming historic towns make PEI a favorite summer tourist location. The Island is connected to the mainland by a 13 km bridge as well as seasonal ferry service. Charlottetown is the main center and has all the amenities expected of a provincial capital. Charlottetown is 3 hours 30 minutes from Halifax NS, by automobile. Several flights per day connect Charlottetown airport to Halifax, Toronto,Ottawa, Montreal and, in summer, Boston and Detroit.
