Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The CSU Department of Clinical Sciences is offering a 1-year Livestock Veterinary Services (LVS) internship focused on comprehensive primary and referral-level medical, surgical, and production medicine care of cattle, small ruminants, camelids, and swine in both in-clinic and field environments. LVS provides local production medicine services to a large commercial dairy and the university beef/sheep center; regionally, it serves large cow-calf, bull development, and range sheep operations. Our team currently includes five faculty, four full-time technicians, one resident, and two livestock interns and is supported by collaborative efforts with equine and other specialty services. Elective rotations are available with the option to develop and complete an investigational research project.  
Training Required:
 DVM or equivalent with eligibility for licensure in Colorado, USDA Accreditation required. In order to be eligible for consideration, applicants must provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States at the point of hire (June, 2024) and throughout the internship. Proof is established through the provision of applicable, original, and unexpired documents (Permanent Resident Status). The Department of Clinical Sciences will not provide financial support for acquisition of appropriate documentation of proof to work in the United States, and this documentation must be in place at the time of the program start date. CSU is an EO/EA/AA employer and conducts background checks on all final candidates. It is a requirement to be able to drive University vehicles during the internship. The candidate must have held a valid US driver’s license for at least 2 years prior to the start date.  
Experience Desired:
 Experience with all livestock, including cattle, small ruminants, pigs and camelids is preferred.  
Salary:
 $50,000 per year + full benefits

Environment:

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 The Livestock hospital and teaching laboratory are currently housed in a recently constructed temporary facility that is planned to be fully operational in May 2024. A new livestock hospital is being constructed with plans for completion at the end of 2025/early 2026.Twenty-four-hour intensive-care hospitalization, emergency case admission and some surgeries will occur within the temporary facility. Some surgeries and procedures will occur in collaboration with the Johnson Family Equine Hospital. In addition to contract clients, the field service takes calls for individual animal health and herd health requests within an approximately 37-mile radius. CSU vehicles are provided for field work.

Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 The in-house hospital service sees approximately 700-900 livestock cases per year consisting of 10% bovine (primarily beef), 60% small ruminant, 15% camelids, and 15% swine. Field service is comprised of population reproductive, procedural, and health assessment services as well as individual sick cow, necropsy, and emergency care for a 1700 hd local dairy. Additional exposure to livestock ambulatory service is provided through the university beef/sheep center, local clients, and through specific training rotations focused on regional cow-calf, bull development, and range sheep operations. Field research opportunities are also available at local dairy operations as well as beef stocker facilities.  
Practice Area:  Northern Colorado is a beautiful place to live with easy access to numerous trails for various outdoor activities. Fort Collins has a very active downtown with multiple cultural events year-round.
