Veterinary Student Scholarship

The National Cattlemen’s Foundation will fund a one-time scholarship for a veterinary student with a graduation year of 2025 or 2026 interested in beef cattle medicine. Students must have completed or are in the process of completing their 2nd or 3rd year of veterinary school at the time of application. This scholarship will be administered by the AABP Foundation and the winner will be announced at the 53rd Annual AABP Conference in Louisville, Ky. The winner need not be present at the conference to receive the award.

Details:

  1. The amount of the scholarship will be $5000 and awarded to one student.
  2. The scholarship application will be open to AABP student members via the Online Application Form.
  3. Veterinary School Faculty Reference must be entered for each applicant.
  4. Applications will be reviewed by AABP members from the Beef Health Management Committee and the Student Activities and Membership Committee. Each application will be reviewed by a minimum of three reviewers.
  5. The application with the highest score will receive the scholarship.
  6. The deadline for submission of the application and supporting letter of reference is 5 pm EDT May 29th.


Scores will be based on the following criteria for the scholarship:

  1. The student must be a current AABP student member at an accredited college of veterinary medicine with a graduation year of 2025 or 2026.
  2. Applications will be reviewed on a 25 point scale.
  3. Current GPA. (2.0-2.5 = 1 pt; 2.51-3.0 = 2 pts, 3.01-3.25 = 3 pts; 3.26-3.5 = 4 pts; >3.5 = 5 pts)
  4. Narrative of experiences and courswork related to beef cattle medicine. (5 points)
  5. Statement of intent for plans after graduation from veterinary school in relation to beef cattle medicine. (5 points)
  6. Answer the question “What do you envision your role to be as a beef cattle veterinarian in ensuring the productivity, health and welfare of beef cattle?” (10 points)
