This is a tenure-line, 36-week position with 50% research and 50% extension responsibilities. We seek an outstanding animal scientist whose interests focus on precision dairy farming. The successful candidate will develop a productive research program that uses technological and data-driven approaches to measure physiological, behavioral, and production indicators with the goal of optimizing production efficiencies, management strategies, and farm performance. Preference will be given to candidates whose research is multidisciplinary and contributes to collaborative scholarship across the Department, College, and other academic units of the university. As an integral member of the Penn State Extension Dairy Team, the successful candidate will develop and implement extension programming that is both innovative and impactful using online tools and face-to-face formats. The successful applicant will be expected to advise graduate students, contribute expertise to upper-level undergraduate Animal Science courses, and engage in appropriate professional activities within and outside the Department. The Department of Animal Science at Penn State includes 32 faculty members and is home to world-leading programs in dairy nutrition, genetics, and reproduction. Located on campus is Penn State's Dairy Complex, a state-of-the art research facility with 500 cows and replacement heifers combined. The Pennsylvania dairy industry, ranked second nationally for the number of dairy farms and seventh for milk production, offers abundant opportunities to work with producers to identify critical issues and develop innovative extension programming. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with the Latinx Agricultural Network (LAN), a Penn State College of Agriculture Community of Practice composed of community members, graduate students, extension educators, faculty, and administrators who seek to enhance Penn State's engagement with its Latinx stakeholders (https://agsci.psu.edu/diversity/latinx-agricultural-network).
