Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine seeks one graduate student (MS or PhD level) in Comparative and Experimental Medicine to conduct research on osteomyelitis and bone regeneration. The student will study the influence of biomaterial scaffolds, antibiotic delivery devices, and bioactive proteins on bone regeneration. The project will involve in vitro studies as well as in vivo studies using animal models (mainly goats). 
Training Required:
 The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in a closely related field, with some experience in research and strong skills in English written and oral communication. Preference will be given to candidates who have earned a DVM or equivalent degree; preference is given to graduates of AVMA accredited Colleges of Veterinary Medicine; preference is given to candidates who have completed an internship or at least 1 year of clinical practice.  
Experience Desired:
 The applicant must be successfully admitted to and fulfill all degree requirements of the Comparative and Experimental Medicine graduate program (https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/research/cem-graduate-program/), conduct research in vitro and in vivo, ensure IACUC compliance, generate progress reports, and write manuscripts based on the study results. All GRAs are expected to help with research studies outside of their personal program. Projects will require development of expertise in cell and bacterial culture, animal surgical research, histopathology, a variety of analytical techniques, biomechanical testing, and statistical data analysis.
