Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
Progressive Dairy Health Services is a 100% Ambulatory Dairy Practice that serves farms predominantly in Eastern New Mexico & West Texas, USA. The practice has 6 Vets and provides services including reproduction, record analysis, surgery & obstetric work, calf management, cow health & worker training / protocol development, nutrition and milk quality consulting. We have worked with the majority of our clients for 10+ years, building solid relationships, and find that an increasing amount of our work is management consulting. There is a varying degree of specialization among the Vets and there is opportunity to pursue your own professional interests.
Other Personnel :  A new or recent graduate will be well mentored by the experienced Vets in the Practice. We’re a multinational team from the USA, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and The Philippines. The practice operates out of professional premises, overseen by the Office Manager, that provides office space, conference facilities, supply & warehousing. The practice also operates a microbiology laboratory that employs 4 microbiologists and 6 technicians.
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
New Mexico & West Texas is home to the largest dairy farms in the world. Farms range from 2000-30,000 milking cows with large calf/heifer ranches. Per cow production on these farms is the highest in the USA at 24,000+ lbs/cow. Dairy farms are mostly family owned and the level of management is high. These farms have predominantly migrated from California to utilize the High Plains regional advantages. These advantages include; relatively cheap land & water, mild high-desert climate, agriculture friendly communities, ease of permitting, access to workers, proximity to milk processing and feed. Cattle are mostly housed in Dry Lot corrals and fed Corn silage based total-mixed-rations.
Practice Area:  Clovis, NM has a population of 38,000 and offers a range of options common to large regional towns. There’s plenty of restaurants & bars, sports clubs etc. Regionally; Lubbock & Amarillo, Texas are about 1 ½ hours drive from Clovis. Both cities have a population of around 250,000 people and are home to large Universities (Texas Tech & West Texas A&M) that provide opportunities for watching College sports, further formal education and socializing. Clovis is 3 ½ hours drive from Albuquerque & Santa Fe, NM that are large cosmopolitan cities with unique histories and pastimes. Great weekends can be dining in world class restaurants, shopping, learning about Native American culture & history, visiting art galleries, taking in the architecture, snow skiing & mountain biking. At the end of a solid work week, you can be drinking a boutique beer on Route 66 in Albuquerque on a Friday night and enjoy a brunch of Huevos Rancheros on the Plaza in Santa Fe on Saturdays. By commercial plane, you can be on the beach in Cancun in 5 hours.
