Objective:
|
: Millenkamp Cattle is looking for an energetic, team-oriented veterinarian that is passionate about animal health and people training to aid in the growth and management of our calf and dairy facilities. |
|
Training Required:
|
DVM or VMD. New grads are welcome to apply. Applicants will preferably have basic to fluent Spanish language skills or a serious interest in learning. 1-2 years previous experience in the cattle industry required. |
|
Experience Desired:
|
Focus will be on the health and management of the calf ranch with minimal dairy overlap. There are enough moving parts that there is flexibility for a candidate to have an area of specialization/focus – pick what you like and develop it!
Primary duties will be at the calf ranch. Calf raising duties would include an understanding of the calf raising system and record system currently in place. An interest in herd medicine (walking pens, crew training, data evaluation) is important along with excellent communication skills. People management is crucial at this scale of operation so interest in protocol development and maintenance, along with implementation and compliance is necessary. Other required duties include weekly vaccination for brucellosis, health certificates, drug room inventory and ordering for the calf ranch and hospital dairy and a good understanding of Dairy Comp 305. The ideal candidate must have good common sense, an ability to get along with management, be comfortable with constructive criticism, and work independently when required.
Possible dairy duties include: Sick cow diagnosis and treatment. DA roll and toggles as needed, and management of lameness/injuries. Routine pregnancy diagnosis may be included.

: Millenkamp Cattle is located in Jerome, ID and Malta, ID. It is a diverse operation spanning the breadth of the dairy production cycle, including a large custom calf raising facility, a feedlot for older youngstock, and 2 dairy operations. Heifer raising facilities include a large progressive calf ranch custom raising calves for clients and ourselves and a custom raising feedlot. The calf ranch contains in house surgical facilities, x-ray and ultrasound capabilities, basic lab and hospital area. There are currently 2 dairies milking a mix of Holstein and Jersey cows. Dairy 1 serves as a hospital/recovery facility for Dairy 2. Dairy 2 milks in state of the art barns, containing six 106 stall rotaries along with a special needs building housing fresh cow milking, maternity, hoof trimming and a large pharmacy. An interest in the outdoors, along with an interest in living in a rural area would be beneficial. South Central Idaho is beautiful high desert country with a wide range of hunting, fishing, camping and ATV riding opportunities both locally and just to our north in the Sawtooth Mountains. The Snake River Canyon cuts through the area providing boating and fishing access on the Snake River. Our eastern most facility sits in ideal elk and bird hunting territory. Local shopping opportunities are in Twin Falls, with Boise an hour and half to the east, Sun Valley an hour north, and Salt Lake City three hours to the south. |
