AABP Student Recognition Award Criteria

Students will be evaluated by the following criteria:

  1. Interest in bovine medicine 10
  2. Work experience 30
  3. Academic & professional experience 30
  4. Career goals 20
  5. Recommendations 10

Description of criteria:

Interest in bovine medicine considers:

  • The student’s explanation of his/her interest and in bovine practice and/or the beef or dairy industry
  • The student’s understanding of current and future industry trends and involvement of veterinary medicine with the cattle industry.

Work experience considers:

  • Work on farm, ranch, dairy or agribusiness
  • Type of experiences
  • Length of experiences
  • Suitability of experiences to as related to bovine veterinary medicine
  • Veterinary experience:
  • Type of practice experiences
  • Externships or internships
  • Length of experiences
  • Suitability of experiences to promote understanding of bovine medicine

Academic accomplishments:

  • Does academic course work relate to student’s career goals?
  • Relevance of preprofessional course work or degrees
  • Courses taken in bovine medicine or relevant subjects (elective or core courses)
  • Specialty courses or off-site experiences (Clay Center, capstone program)
  • Involvement in student organizations (Student AABP, Food Animal Club, SCAVMA)

Career goals:

  • Is there clear demonstration of career goals?
  • Are goals realistic and attainable?
  • Have work experiences and academic work prepared student to achieve goals?
